Big Boy Pants

Every once in a while I will go through a season in life that it would be easy to get down about. I know that might surprise you that as a pastor I might get down, but sometimes it is tempting. Usually it is when I am tired, something hasn’t gone perfect, or I didn’t meet expectations I set out for myself. Sometimes it might even be that someone criticizes me and I internalize it.

Here is the bottom line: I need to put on my big boy pants and get over it!!!

And so do YOU!!!

Yes, sometimes life is unfair. Yes, sometimes you make stupid decisions that embarrass you. Yes, sometimes your spouse will disappoint you. (Mine never does – I love you sweetheart) Yes, people will criticize you. Yes, sometimes life sucks. (I hate using that word, but it really does fit here)

Again, the bottom line: Get over it and put on your big boy pants!!!

Tomorrow is a new day, so wake up in the morning ready to deal with the things that need to be dealt with. I have never met a difficult decision that got easier over time! Procrastination and whining do nothing but make life worse.

So – repent – forgive – ask for forgiveness – do whatever you need to get things right and move on! If not, go to CVS, buy some Depends (adult diapers), put them on, and live in the mess you have made. Personally, I would rather just wear big boy pants.

All about the numbers

I love how one of my friends, Steven Furtick, says, “Yes, we are all about the numbers!” So many times in the church world “talking numbers” is bad. The problem with that is that numbers represent people! They represent life change! So let me brag a little, on what GOD has done, here at Journey so far this year!

Over 500 people have committed their lives to Christ!
109 people have be baptized!
There have been over 275 families visit our church!
There are over 2,500 people reading the New Testament!
There have been 185 people go through Journey Leadership Institute!
Our North Campus children’s attendance is up over 50%!
There are over 100 people going to serve in Haiti this year!
And that just gets us started! I am so humble by what God has done, and is doing, through Journey Church! God will continue to do far more than we could ever imagine, guess, or request in our wildest dreams! We will see a city transformed, one life at a time!

Books that mess with my mind

Over the past several months I have read several books that have messed with me in a great way. Here is the list:

How the Might Fall – UNBELIEVABLE!!! I just wanted to curl up in a corner and cry it hurt so bad! Led me to a place of brokenness and truth. Caution – It will hurt!
Innovate the Pixar Way – This really challenged me on what kind of culture I’m creating for the people who work for me, and the people who call Journey home.
Rework – Simple book on leadership that is well written, an easy read, and full of truth about today! Confirmed to me how much leadership has changed in the past 8 years! It is a whole new world!
Linchpin – By far this is Seth Godin’s best book, in my humble, but accurate, opinion. Describes what it takes to succeed in today’s world better than any other book.
The Bible – By far my favorite! No, I am not trying to be uber spiritual, I really am getting more out of the Bible than ever before! I have loved reading the New Testament in an intensive way!
So there is my list, now my challenge – start reading!!! I know you might say you’re not a reader, my advice: GET OVER IT! If you aren’t growing personally, at an aggressive rate, your missing the greatest days in our history. There is more opportunity than ever before, but it looks different than it ever has.

Hunker down – break old habits – and become a READER! It will change your life.

P.S. – How the Mighty Fall really, really does hurt! It’s a great place to start!
